Position Overview
The City of Alexandria, Virginia, Department of Community and Human Services (DCHS), seeks a highly motivated, innovative, visionary leader for the Director of the Center for Adult Services (CAS) position. The ideal candidate will have a demonstrated leadership record and the experience necessary to effectively manage an integrated operation administered by a multi-disciplinary staff team responsible for the delivery of comprehensive behavioral health services and services for older adults and those with disabilities. The ideal candidate will also have a deep understanding of the interdependence among human services, health and behavioral health and a strong commitment to working within an integrative service delivery system. Additionally, the ideal candidate will be a proven and creative problem solver, experienced in budget development and oversight, a trust builder and accountable decision maker with an ability to develop and maintain positive and results oriented relationships with a diverse group of staff, community partners and other stakeholders.
Reporting to the Department Director, the CAS Director is a vital member of the DCHS leadership team and has the primary responsibility of leading the day-to-day operations of the multidisciplinary team that manages four operational Divisions that include Aging and Adult Services, Clinical and Emergency Services, Community Support and Residential Services and Central Administrative Support. The CAS is the largest DCHS center with 287 FTE’s, a $36 million budget, and the 24/7 operation of residential facilities (group homes and apartments) located throughout the city. The position ensures the coordination of work within the CAS, other DCHS Centers, and with other agencies and City Departments. The Center Director is also responsible for the formulation and implementation of Center policy and procedures and budget oversight and management. The incumbent also serves as Executive Director and primary staff support for the Alexandria Community Services Board (CSB), a Virginia code-mandated administrative policy board charged with oversight of publicly funded behavioral health and developmental services.
Salary & Benefits

Department Overview
DCHS, through a staff compliment of close to 700 employees, provides critical services including: behavioral health, child welfare, developmental disabilities, domestic violence/sexual assault, early childhood, economic supports, homeless prevention, public benefits assistance, residential, substance use, workforce development, and youth development services for individuals across the lifespan. In addition to the CAS, the department provides the services through three other centers: the Center for Children and Families, Center for Economic Support, and Center for Operations.
